Winnipeg Police Warn that Stolen Vehicle Reports are Up with Colder Temps

Stolen Vehicle Reports Up with Cold Temps

WINNIPEG, MB. - As a winter deep freeze impacts our city and more people leave their vehicles unattended, Winnipeg Police are receiving a number of reports of stolen vehicles since yesterday.

In a statement released by police today they said, "With temperatures falling and wind chill forecast to be in the -40° range, the Winnipeg Police Service once again reminds the public of the risks of leaving vehicles unattended with the engine running."

Police did say that many newer vehicles allow the engine to run with the keys safely removed. They also suggested using a steering wheel locking bar as a alternative.
