Winnipeg Police Shred It Event

Manitoba PostNews

WINNIPEG, MB – March is Fraud Prevention Month and one of the most prevalent areas you are at risk continues to be identity theft.

Where is your identity is most at risk? In your mail box. Hundreds of thousands of pieces of mail are delivered each day in Canada and much of that mail contains identifying personal information that can be used to steal your identity.

The most effective way to protect yourself and identity is to shred those papers that contain the information fraudsters want. All items from a financial institution and even the bulk items your bank may send should be shredded. Personal documents that may contain your date of birth or Social Insurance Number are also at risk. The bar code on airline boarding passes contain your personal information including date of birth. School documents that contain your child’s name. The list goes on and on.

As part of Fraud Prevention Month the Winnipeg Police are hosting the 5th Annual Shred It Event Thursday March 29th between 11AM and 2PM. Shredding will be offered at two location s, St. Vital Centre and Polo Park.
