Taser used to Arrest "Car-jacker"

WINNIPEG, MB - Winnipeg Police used a taser on a 22-year-old suspected car-jacker yesterday.

The attempted car-jacking occurred around 8:30 p.m. February 8th, at the intersection of Albert St. and McDermot Ave.

Police said the victim, a male in his 20’s, had remotely started his vehicle which was running with the doors locked. As he and a friend approached the vehicle they were confronted by a man who demanded the keys and motioned, indicating he had a weapon. They gave the suspect the keys but he was unable to unlock the door. He left and began looking into other vehicles.

While police were speaking to the victim the suspect returned to the intersection. Officers attempted to arrest him and were forced to use a taser to subdue him.

Charged is Dakota Francis Richard, 22-year-old, with this following:

  • Robbery (Carjacking)
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Identity Fraud
