WINNIPEG - People will soon be able to report non-emergency crimes in Winnipeg similar to how they buy groceries at a store's self-checkout.
The automated crime reporting system is coming to three police stations in the city.
According to chief Danny Smyth, it will be a yearlong pilot project to see how well the system works.
He says the aim is to reduce unnecessary calls to an overwhelmed 911 system and lessen demand on general patrols.
