Retired Officer Takes Down Robbery Suspect

Retired Officer Nabs Robber

WINNIPEG, MB - A retired Winnipeg police officer was in the right place and the right time yesterday afternoon and took down a robbery suspect.

Around 3PM Thursday, February 1, police responded to a robbery at a business in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue. A retired Winnipeg Police officer, who happened upon the suspect was able to take the suspect into custody.

The suspect entered the business telling staff he had weapons and demanding money. He was provided with an undisclosed amount of money and fled the business.

The suspect entered a running vehicle, told the driver that he had a weapon and demanded to be driven to a different location. The driver was able to safely exit the vehicle with the keys. The retired officer, who was nearby, then apprehended the suspect.

All money was recovered and no injuries were sustained.

Police have charged, Darren Rodney Remple, 51-years-old of Winnipeg with Robbery X2.
