Police Must Meet $9M Shortfall

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Police Board has approved a $320 million budget for next year.

Chief Danny Smyth says that means the Winnipeg Police Service will have to find $9 million in savings to stay within that budget.

That will likely include less overtime and not filling job vacancies, according to Smyth.

In September, Smyth said financial pressure was growing because traffic enforcement revenue was down and an overhaul of the pension plan had been scrapped.
