Winnipeg Car Thefts Increase 54% May into June

Manitoba PostNews

WINNIPEG – Vehicle thefts in Winnipeg have increased a whopping 54% over the months of May to June said police.

A majority of thefts were because people left their vehicles running, stolen keys, or keys that had been left hidden inside vehicles.

Police are saying the thefts were preventable and suggest all vehicle owners follow the simple yet important safety tips:

– Never leave your vehicle unattended while running with the keys in the ignition.

– Do not leave your keys inside the vehicle, whether they are hidden or not.

– Keys left at home (or at your business) should always be hidden. This will help prevent the theft of your vehicle if your home (or business) is broken into.
