WINNIPEG - A bylaw change that would hit some Winnipeg property owners with fire fees is a step closer to reality.
The Property and Development Committee has unanimously approved the proposed amendment which would pass on the cost of fire crews to owners of derelict buildings.
It could end up costing thousands of dollars depending on the blaze as one fire truck for one hour would come with a price tag of almost $1,400.
The change still needs approval from Executive Policy Committee and then all of City Council.
