Winnipeg's EPC Votes Against Dismatling Bus Shelters

No Vote To Dismantle Shelters

WINNIPEG - Executive policy committee has voted 6-1 against a plan to dismantle the bus shelters in front of Kildonan Place Mall.

Transcona city councillor Shawn Nason proposed the plan as a way to deter homeless people from using the shelters.

Kate Kehler at Winnipeg's Social Planning Council says it was a knee-jerk reaction to the problem of homelessness.

She calls the vote a frustrating step backward with policy makers which does nothing to help the homeless.
