WINNIPEG - The biggest union at the City of Winnipeg is preparing to go on strike.
CUPE Local 500 which represents 5,000 workers in a variety of positions has set a deadline Tuesday to walk off the job.
Members voted 93 per cent in favour of going on strike in July after their current contract expired in February.
The union, which says the main sticking point is wages, hopes to negotiate an essential services agreement in case there is job action.
