Pause Continues At Landfill

WINNIPEG - Premier Heather Stefanson says operations will remain on hold at a portion of Winnipeg's Prairie Green landfill while work begins to determine whether it can be searched for the remains of two First Nations women.

The Manitoba government will be joining an Indigenous-led committee tasked with deciding if a search is possible to recover the remains of Morgan Harris and Marcedes Myran.

The federal government says it will fund the feasibility study and it would like a discussion about what resources are needed from the various levels of government.

Police believe the remains of Harris and Myran were sent to Prairie Green in the spring by an alleged serial killer but they have rejected the idea of a search, citing the passage of time, the lack of a precise location and the tonnes of material that has been deposited since then.
