New Home Office Write Off

WINNIPEG – The CRA says those who work from home can claim up to $400 on office expenses. A simplified process now allows employees to claim those expenses as personal income tax deductions when they file for the 2020 tax year if, due to COVID-19 public health measures, they did work at home more than half of the time during four consecutive weeks or more this year due to COVID-19.

This means workers who are eligible can claim a $2 deduction for every day that they were home, up to a maximum of $400. 2.4 million Canadians who didn’t normally work from home did so in October according to a report by Stats Canada.
