More Sewage Into River

WINNIPEG - The city's wastewater treatment problems continue.

1.6 million litres of partially treated sewage was released into the Red River last month.

The previously undisclosed discharge between April 21st and 25th is nearly 20 times the amount of diluted sewage put into the Assiniboine River in all of March.

Chris Carroll, Winnipeg's wastewater manager, blames torrential rain.

He says if the flow had not been diverted, the plant could have been flooded which would have left most of the city without a working sewage plant for an extended period of time.
