Manitoba's Biggest ER Closes Half Its Beds

Biggest ER Closes Beds

WINNIPEG - The province's largest emergency department has been cut in half because of a shortage of nurses.

Only beds for the most seriously ill patients remain open at Health Sciences Centre because current nursing capacity is only about 30 per cent.

Patients with less serious needs will have to wait even longer for treatment as HSC tries to find additional staff to fill shifts this weekend.

The Winnipeg hospital is the most important treatment centre for trauma patients in Manitoba, northwestern Ontario and Nunavut.

And the province thought it was a good idea to fire medical staff because they weren't vaccinated because....? This is part of the problem. They should get their jobs back plus compensation.
