Incident Being Assessed

WINNIPEG - A popular tourist attraction will remain closed indefinitely after 17 schoolchildren and an adult were hurt in Winnipeg on Wednesday.

Part of an elevated wooden walkway at Fort Gibraltar collapsed and a group of people fell as much as six metres.

Several Grade five students from St. John's-Ravenscourt were treated for broken bones and other injuries, with officials at Health Sciences Centre saying only one child needed to stay for overnight observation.

Festival du Voyageur, which leases the fort from the City of Winnipeg , says it is co-operating with all authorities as the incident is assessed.
