$1.3 Million For Klinic

WINNIPEG - Manitoba has announced $1.3 million for a community-based program to give survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence an option other than going to a hospital ER.

Families Minister Rochelle Squires says the new program will provide forensic examination services after assaults and will complement the existing Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program at Winnipeg's Health Sciences Centre.

That program has recently faced criticism over a nursing shortage.

The new funding will support an initial site at Klinic Community Health where nurses already provide third-party reporting services for victims who don't want to go directly to police.
