Cops In Schools Could End

WINNIPEG – A program that puts police officers in some city schools could be scrapped.

City council will vote whether to renew the school resource officer program later this month.

The Winnipeg Police Service says the program is beneficial but a group called Police-Free Schools feels policing is prejudicial, criminalizes young people and escalates behavioral problems.

The program cost school divisions almost $900,000 last year.
