Calls For Safe Consumption Site

Safe Consumption Site

WINNIPEG - 80 frontline organizations and service providers in the province have called for a safe consumption site to prevent drug users from dying.

However, the minister of community wellness says his Progressive Conservative government has not identified a model that will work in Manitoba.

Sarah Guillemard says the strongest harm-reduction strategy is to encourage people to get off of drugs.

Meanwhile, the province will spend $390,000 to expand a program to help people reduce or stop their substance use.

Manitoba reported over 250 drug overdose deaths halfway through this year and is on track to surpass last year’s record of 407.
