WINNIPEG - Air1 won't be flying above the city for the next few months.
The police helicopter is being grounded so major repairs can take place after more than a decade of fighting crime from the air.
The substantial tune-up will cost $600,000, an expense the city has budgeted for.
The aircraft will be taken apart down to its frame, inspected and then put back together again.
Air1 should be flying again by the end of May, just in time for the busy summer when there tends to be more crime.
