WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Jets went from one of the hottest teams in the league to a team that is now winless in their last three games with a 3-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins last night at Canada Life Centre.
Dominic Toninato opened the scoring for the Jets midway through the first period to give the Jets the lead. At one point in the second period the Jets had a 20-9 lead on shots on goal, but the Pens came alive with Jason Zucker’s goal at 14:29. From that point the rest of the game was controlled by Pittsburgh, and they took the lead early into the third period with a goal from Danton Heinen, then added an empty netter from Jake Guentzel to seal the win. The Penguins outshot Winnipeg 36-31, and Connor Hellebuyck made 33 saves in a losing effort.
The Jets are now 9-5-4 and have fallen to 3rd place in the Central Division. They start a three game road trip tomorrow night in Columbus against the Blue Jackets. Game time is 6pm (SNW, 680CJOB/Power 97).
