WINNIPEG - The return to Canada Life Centre failed to ignite a spark in the Winnipeg Jets as they were out gunned by the Atlantic Division leading Florida Panthers 5-3 last night in downtown Winnipeg.
The Jets tried to keep up with a good first period as the teams traded a couple of goals each until Florida took a 3-2 lead after Anton Lundell’s goal with 2:28 remaining. Winnipeg got the second period off to a good start when Pierre-Luc Dubois beat Sergei Bobrovsky 3:30 in. Florida regained the lead with Carter Verhaeghe’s 15th goal of the season and never looked back. The Panthers sealed the deal in the third with a goal by Sam Bennet. Mason Marchment netted two goals for the Panthers as well.
Cole Perfetti played his best game as a Winnipeg Jet, assisting on goals by Kyle Connor and Dubois; Paul Stastny was the other Jets goal scorer. Connor Hellebuyck was once again subpar stopping 27 of the 32 shots he faced while Florida’s Bobrovsky made 32 saves for the win.
The 17-15-7 Jets two game home stand wraps up Thursday night when they host the Vancouver Canucks at 7pm (TSN 3, 680 CJOB/Power 97).
