Winnipeg Jets Lose Shootout In Edmonton

Jets Lose Shootout @ Oilers

WINNIPEG - Stuart Skinner won the battle of the goaltenders last night as the Edmonton Oilers beat the Winnipeg Jets in the shootout 2-1. Skinner stopped 44 of 45 shots including 8 in the overtime period much of which was on a Jets power play with Connor McDavid in the penalty box.

The game was scoreless through two periods until Nikolaj Ehlers scored at 13:57 of the 3rd which was quickly matched by McDavid 28 seconds later. McDavid then clipped Mark Scheifele with 44 seconds to go in regulation which resulted in a 4 minute advantage that spilled into the extra period, but the Jets were unable to beat Skinner to send the game to the shootout. McDavid and Kyle Turris beat Connor Hellebuyck in the shootout to give the Oilers the win. Hellebuyck played a strong game in the Winnipeg net stopping 31 of the 32 shots he faced. Even in the loss, the Jets have got at least one point in 13 of their last 14 games.

Winnipeg’s short road trip continues tonight in Vancouver against the Canucks. Game time is 9pm (TSN 3, 680 CJOB/Power 97).
