Jets Lose 3-1 To Detroit

WINNIPEG - In all my years of attending professional sporting events, I have never experienced a moment of silence like last night at Canada Life Centre when the Winnipeg Jets organization recognized the fourth anniversary of the tragic bus crash that involved members of the Humboldt Broncos, killing 16 people, and injuring another 13.

After that stirring moment, there was a game to play, and sadly neither the crowd nor the Jets were able to regain any emotion as the Detroit Red Wings defeated Winnipeg 3-1.

Detroit’s Sam Gagner recorded his 500th NHL career point with a shorthanded goal and added an empty-netter. Michael Rasmussen scored at 9:11 of the third period to break a 1-1 tie; that goal turned out to be the game winner. Mark Scheifele scored for the Jets who are now 33-28-10, and have lost three straight.

After the Red Wings empty netter, the crowd basically gave the Jets their own moment of silence. Connor Hellebuyck made 32 saves for Winnipeg.

The Jets wrap up a three-game homestand Friday against the Colorado Avalanche. Puck drop is 7pm (TSN3, 680 CJOB/Power 97).
