WINNIPEG - After an extended Christmas break, the Winnipeg Jets returned to action Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas with Kyle Connor scoring in overtime to give them a 5-4 comeback victory over the Golden Knights.
The Jets looked sluggish in the first period with Vegas opening up an early 2-0 lead, but they stormed back with four straight goals by Jansen Harkins, Kritisan Reichel (first of his career), Paul Stastny and Andrew Copp. The Jets let the lead slip away with the Golden Knights scoring a pair late in the third period, including the tying goal with eight seconds left, to send the game to overtime. But Connor spoiled the Vegas comeback attempt when he beat former Jet Laurent Brossoit with a wrist shot at 2:39 in the extra period. Winnipeg peppered Brossoit with 37 shots, while Conner Hellebuyck was sensational stopping 42 of the 46 shots he faced.
The 15-11-4 Jets now head to Phoenix to continue the three-game road trip on Tuesday night against the Coyotes. Game time is 8pm (TSN 3, 680 CJOB/Power97).
