WINNIPEG - Even with six power play opportunities, the Winnipeg Jets (24-22-10) went down to defeat 4-1 at the hands of the New York Rangers Sunday night at Canada Life Centre.
Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin was the main factor, stopping 45 shots with a save percentage of .978. At the other end of the ice, struggling Jets netminder Connor Hellebuyck stopped 18 of the 22 shots he faced for a dismal .818 save percentage.
Rangers forward Chris Kreider scored two goals and is tied for second in NHL scoring. Mike Zibanejad and Barclay Goodrow also scored for the Rangers who are now 36-15-5 on the season. Artemi Panarin and former Jets defensemen Jacob Trouba had two assists apiece for New York.
Nikolaj Ehlers scored Winnipeg’s only goal.
The Jets homestand continues Tuesday night when they face the Tampa Bay Lightning, the defending Stanley Cup champions. The game goes at 7pm (TSN3, 680 CJOB/Power 97).
