WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Jets closed out their seven game homestand with a record of 5-1-1 after an impressive 5-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers Tuesday night at Canada Life Centre.
The Jets eliminated the Oilers in four straight games during last year’s playoffs and quickly picked up where they left off jumping into a 4-0 lead halfway through the 2nd period with goals from Adam Lowry, Nikolaj Ehlers, Pierre-Luc Dubois, and Mark Scheifele. The Oilers made it interesting early in the 3rd period with a couple of powerplay goals by Leon Draisaitl, but the Jets calmed things down and got an empty net goal from Kyle Connor at 18:23 to put the game away for the home team.
Connor Hellebuyck had a strong game in the Winnipeg net turning away 33 shots, and Josh Morrissey had a strong game on the Jets blueline adding 2 assists and logging almost 24 minutes of ice time.
The two teams meet again Thursday night in Edmonton. Game time is 8pm (TSN 3, 680 CJOB/Power 97).
