WINNIPEG - Vancouver’s Elias Pettersson scored the lone goal in the shootout as the Canucks beat the Winnipeg Jets 4-3 Friday night at Rogers Arena. Bruce Boudreau, who took over head coaching duties late Sunday night after the club fired Travis Green and general manager Jim Benning has now lead the Canucks to three straight victories.
Blake Wheeler and Kyle Connor each had a goal and two assists for Winnipeg (13-9-5). Mark Scheifele also scored for Winnipeg. Thatcher Demko stopped 34-of-37 shots in regulation for the Canucks and the Jets Eric Comrie made 33 saves in his first start since November 19th. In the third period, Wheeler was hurt in a collision with teammate Nathan Beaulieu and Vancouver’s Vasili Podkolzin in front of the Jets' net. He immediately grabbed his knee and skated off the ice. When Paul Maurice was asked for an update on the Jets captain after the game he replied with "It's going to be a while."
The Jets have the next three nights off before they start a three game homestand Tuesday night against the Buffalo Sabres. Puck drop is 7pm (TSN3, 680 CJOB/Power97)
