WINNIPEG - The hats were flying last night at Canada Life Centre as Mark Scheifele ended his seven-game goalless skid scoring 3 times to lead the Winnipeg Jets to an 8-4 victory over the New Jersey Devils.
Nikolaj Ehlers also found the net twice ending his five-game goalless streak while Kristian Vesalainen, Josh Morrissey and Adam Lowry also scored. Connor Hellebuyck made 33 saves on 37 shots for the win. Devils netminder Jonathan Bernier, made 26 saves on 32 shots before being yoinked at the end of the second period. His replacement Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 6-of-8 shots.
The Jets jumped out to a 3-0 lead before 8 minutes went by, then the Devils stormed back with 2 goals to end the first period. Then, before most fans found their seats after intermission, New Jersey scored twice in 1:16 to take the lead. But then it was all Winnipeg as they scored 5 unanswered goals to send the crowd home extremely happy.
Blake Wheeler is scheduled to play his 1,000th NHL game on Sunday when the Jets host to the Toronto Maple Leafs, the same day the Winnipeg Blue Bombers host the West Final versus the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Puck drop is 7pm (TSN 3, Power 97)
