Jets Down Vegas

WINNIPEG - Logan Stanley with the “Gordie Howe Hat-Trick” led the Winnipeg Jets in a 7-3 win over the Vegas Golden Nights last night in downtown Winnipeg. Stanley scored his first goal of the season, recorded an assist, and won his first period fight over Keegan Kolesar in the winning effort.

Winnipeg took a 2-0 lead after Blake Wheeler and Kyle Connor scored 33 seconds apart late in the first period. Vegas got within one goal after Nicolas Roy beat Connor Hellebuyck at 6:49 into the second frame, but then it was all Jets as Nikolaj Ehlers, Stanley, and Mark Scheifele gave the Jets the 5-1 lead before the period was over.

Vegas made it interesting with two third period goals by Alex Pietrangelo and Michael Amadio to narrow the gap to 5-3 until Josh Morrissey scored a power play at 10:33. Adam Lowry added a shorthanded goal at 13:34 to finish off the Golden Knights.

Golden Knights netminder (and former Jet) Laurent Brossoit was replaced in the second period after giving up four goals on 13 shots. Logan Thompson didn’t do much better, finishing the game with 3 saves on 10 shots. Connor Hellebuyck made 35 saves for the win. The Jets are now 28-23-10 on the season.

The Boston Bruins are the Jets next opponent on Friday night. Puck drop is 7pm at Canada Life Centre (TSN3, 680 CJOB/Power 97).
