WINNIPEG - In the first game of a four game Winnipeg homestand, Arizona goalie Karel Vejmelka made 46 saves to record his first NHL shutout as the Coyotes beat the Jets 1-0 Monday night at Canada Life Centre.
As Winnipeg Sports Talk host Andrew “Hustler Paterson” said last week after an embarrassing defeat at the hands of the Columbus Blue Jackets “Another night of making the opposing goalie look like Marty Brodeur in his prime”.
Such was the case again last night. Once again Connor Hellebuyck was “out goalied” as he only faced 15 Coyotes shots; Antoine Roussel was the lone goal scorer beating Hellebuyck with about 2 minutes to go in the 2nd period.
The Jets were 0-6 on the powerplay including in the third period when Kyle Capobianco was assessed a 4 minute high sticking penalty for clipping Jets captain Blake Wheeler in the face.
Winnipeg has now six losses in their past seven games and have been outscored 21-9 during that time. Next up are the New Jersey Devils on Friday night. Game time is 7pm (TSN 3, 680 CJOB/Power 97).
