Jets 2 Points Out Of Playoffs

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Jets pulled within 2 points of the last wild card playoff spot with a 4-0 win over the Vegas Golden Knights last night at Canada Life Centre. The injury-riddled Knights have lost their last seven road games and are fading out of playoff contention. Despite the lopsided score, the win wasn’t easy for the Jets.

Winnipeg escaped the first period without a goal after being outshot 17-4. Connor Hellebuyck’s strong play in net kept the score tied at 0-0. Vegas outshot the Jets in the second period too (12-11), but Pierre-Luc Dubois’ goal at 6:16 sparked the Jets; Mark Scheifele added another at 15:14. The Jets added two more in the third period from Neil Pionk and Nikolaj Ehlers, but again, Hellebuyck’s steady play was the story as the Jets were outshot yet again. After the dust settled, Vegas outshot Winnipeg 42-26. Hellebuyck’s shut out was the 28th of his career.

Scheifele and Ehlers each added an assist, Kyle Connor and Blake Wheeler also had 2 point nights with 2 assists each.

The 30-24-10 Jets continue their homestand tomorrow night when they face the Ottawa Senators at 7pm (TSN3, 680 CJOB/Power 97).
