Jets Take 2-0 Lead

WINNIPEG - I would of called you a liar if you said the Winnipeg Jets would win game 1 in Edmonton. If there is anyone reading this that predicted the Jets would leave Edmonton with a 2-0 series lead please email me with tonight’s 6/49 numbers. (Prediction – I won’t get an email)

Paul Stastny’s second playoff overtime goal of his career 4:06 into overtime was the only one the Jets needed as they defeated the Oilers 1-0 and take a commanding series lead into Sunday’s match up in Winnipeg. Stastny took a pass from Andrew Copp and fired a long wrist shot through a double screen to beat Oilers goalie Mike Smith. Both teams battled fiercely for 60 minutes prior to that; the Jets had a slight edge on shots hitting Smith with 35 of them. Connor Hellebuyck, looking very much like the defending Vezina winner, made 34 saves in regulation and 4 in OT once again stifling Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Winnipeg also survived a brief 2 man disadvantage in the 3rd period when it looked like the Oilers were taking over the momentum. The Jets recovered and regained the edge they had in the first 2 periods. The game was rough and tough just like playoff hockey should be.

Game 3 goes at 6:30pm tomorrow night.
