WINNIPEG - Well, I did predict a sweep. Just not by the Montreal Canadiens.
The Habs essentially ruined the Jets Logan Stanley’s one man show with a Tyler Toffoli goal at 1:39 of overtime to give the Canadiens a 3-2 win and a 4-0 sweep of the Winnipeg Jets. Montreal jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead with goals by Erik Gustafsson and Artturi Lehkonen and took that lead to the intermission. Much like Sunday’s game, the Jets looked like their feet were in quicksand in the second period only mustering 4 shots; 2 of which were Stanley’s goals. The third period wasn’t much better as the Jets were outshot 14-5. Overall Montreal outshot Winnipeg 43-15. Connor Hellebuyck had little support from his teammates but still made 40 saves.
The Jets were outplayed, outshot and out classed. Montreal has now won 7 consecutive playoff games and await the winner of the Vegas/Colorado series.
