Create a Bug and Win

WINNIPEG, MB. – Children in grades 1-6 are all invited to enter Assiniboine Park’s Xtreme Bugs competition. You can enter by creating your very own bug. The winner will win a free trip to the zoo for the exhibit opening and the unveiling of 19 gigantic animatronic bugs.

Word count should be 250 words or less and can include a drawing of the bug. Submissions should include: the name and characteristics of the bug i.e. size, colour, where it lives, what it eats etc., the role the bug plays in our ecosystem, and how it affects other insects and/or plants.

The winning student will receive the following for their school class:

· Free trip to the Assiniboine Park Zoo in late May. (Exact date tbd).

· Opportunity to be part of the official opening of Xtreme BUGS!

· Pizza lunch in the Zoo’s Tundra Grill restaurant.

· Class photo at the exhibit.

The deadline to enter is Friday April 27th. Submissions can be emailed in English or French, accompanied with the Teacher Name, Classroom, School Name and Contact Information to info@assiniboinepark.ca.

Xtreme BUGS will feature 19 giant, animatronic bugs along the forested trail inside the Zoo. Included with regular Zoo admission, the exhibit will transport visitors into a vivid, dynamic, and awe-inspiring new environment where they can experience how the world would appear from a bug’s eye view. Interpretive components of the exhibit will help visitors understand the science behind insect appearance, behaviour, and survival and the important role that bugs play in our everyday environment.
