WINNIPEG - The province’s police watchdog is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Winnipeg on the weekend.

The Manitoba Independent Investigation Unit says it was notified by Winnipeg Police after the deadly incident happened early Saturday morning when a driver failed to pull over for a traffic stop.

Cops went to the home of the vehicle’s registered driver where a man advanced at them on foot with a weapon.

The MIIU says officers shot the man several times and he died in hospital.
