WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Police Festive Season Checkstop program is again on the road for 2019. Drivers can expect to see police at random checkstops throughout the season enforcing Impaired Driving Laws.

Police said, impaired driving continues to be the #1 criminal cause of death in Canada, yet it is 100% preventable. It's important to remember that driving while impaired by cannabis, is a crime.

Week 1 & 2 (Sunday, December 1 to Saturday, December 14) results:

711 cars stopped

508 Roadside breath tests administered resulting in 12 warns and 7 fails

20 impaired driving related charges (1 Drug Impaired Driver)

15 traffic tickets issued

The highest blood alcohol concentration recorded was 250 mg%
