Two Suspects Arrested After Dangerous Stolen Car Chase

WINNIPEG – A stolen car chase resulted in both police and suspects briefly hospitalized after the suspects dangerous driving put everyone involved at risk.

Police began to follow the stolen vehicle at Portage and St. Mary and tried to stop it when a second cruiser arrived to assist. The second unit approached from the front, attempting to bring the vehicle to a stop at Broadway and Langside. The stolen vehicle accelerated and struck the front passenger side of the cruiser The stolen vehicle drove onto the sidewalk, around the cruiser car, and onto Broadway, striking a second cruiser car.

Two male suspects fled from the stolen vehicle and were pursued by officers. One suspect discharged bear spray, making contact with two officers. He was located and arrested in the area of Broadway and Furby Street. The second male was located in the 200 block of Furby Street where he refused to comply with officer’s demands. As a result the officer deployed his conducted energy weapon, making contact with the suspect who was then placed under arrest.

Both suspects were taken to hospital as a precaution and released.

A 28-year-old male of Winnipeg and a 31-year-old male of Winnipeg have been arrested and remain in police custody.
