Suspect in Robberies Nabbed

WINNIPEG - Police have laid charges against a 33 year-old Winnipeg man after a string of convenience store robberies dating back to July 9, 2019.

The suspect was caught in the act soon after robbing a convenience store on July 30 and after investigating, they linked him to 8 other convenience store robberies this month:

- On July 9, 2019, at approximately 11:10 p.m., a convenience store in the 100 block of Salter Street was robbed by a male armed with a knife.

- On July 15, 2019, at approximately 6:15 a.m., a convenience store in the 600 block of McPhillips Street was robbed by a male armed with a knife.

- On July 15, 2019, at approximately 12:20 p.m., a convenience store in the 1500 block of Arlington Street was robbed by a male armed with a firearm.

- On July 15, 2019, at approximately 10:05 p.m., a hotel in the 300 block of Kennedy Street was robbed by a male.

- On July 17, 2019, at approximately 1:50 a.m., a convenience store in the 700 block of Mountain Avenue was robbed by a male armed with a knife.

- On July 18, 2019, at approximately 11:45 p.m., the same convenience store in the 600 block of McPhillips Street was robbed by a male armed with a knife.

- On July 24, 2019, at approximately 2:40 a.m., a convenience store in the 800 block of Arlington Street was robbed by a male armed with a knife.

- On July 25, 2019, at approximately 2:50 a.m., a convenience store in the 100 block of Keewatin Street was robbed by a male armed with a firearm.

33 year-old Harvey James McKay has been charged with:

- Robbery (x7)

- Armed Robbery using a Restricted Firearm or Prohibited Firearm (x2)

- Pointing a Firearm (x2)

- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x2)

- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition

- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized (x2)

- Use of Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence (x2)

- Possession of a Weapon (x8)

- Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice (x8)

He was detained in custody.
