Police Use Taser to Arrest Suspect

WINNIPEG - An intoxicated fight resulted in one of the suspects being tasered by police.

On January 7 at 5:40 pm. police were called to the scene of a number of intoxicated people causing a disturbance on Union Street. When the first officer arrived he found two men arguing in a back lane. As the Patrol Sergeant left his car one of the men approached him in an aggressive and agitated state with his fists clenched. The officer deployed his taser.

While he was attempting to arrest the man, the suspect grabbed the officer's firearm and tried to remove it from the holster. Additional officers were then required to get him under control.

Neither the officers nor the accused suffered any injuries during the incident.

The man was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure where he was medically cleared and released. Due to his level of intoxication and violent behaviour he was directly detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.

30 year-old Jarvis Leander Kent has been charged with Disarming a Peace Officer, Assaulting a Peace Officer and Resisting a Peace Officer. He was held in custody.
