Murder Charges Laid After Fire

WINNIPEG - 26 year old Ethan Gage Shaydon Powderhorn has been charged with two counts of second degree murder in connection with a deadly fire in Winnipeg on Christmas Day.

Police say two blazes were set in the same apartment unit within hours of each other but it was the second one that engulfed the suite.

Six people were sent to hospital from the 300 block of Qu'Appelle Avenue but two of them, a 63 year old man and a 70 year old woman, later died from their injuries.

Investigators say the accused is also believed to be responsible for a downtown garbage bin fire last month that resulted in about $500,000 in damage.
