Teenagers Arrested for String of Robberies

WINNIPEG - Police have arrested a gang of our youths responsible for a number of robberies in Winnipeg on Sunday.

Police said they received several reports of robberies committed by four young people on Sunday between 3:20PM and 3:45PM.

The first victim, a 35-year-old woman, was walking in the area of Furby Street and Ellice Avenue when a group of youths attempted to steal her jacket and belongings. The victim was punched several times. The kids took off when a bystander intervened. The woman later went for medical treatment.

A second victim, a 19-year-old woman, was on Balmoral Street when she was attacked by a group of youths, one armed with a small knife. The kids struck the woman several times and stole her cell phone and wallet. The woman was treated in hospital.

The same youths then approached an unidentified woman in the area of Edmonton Street and Portage Avenue and asked for a cigarette. When the woman said no, the youths attempted to rob her of her purse, kicking her while she was on the ground. A bystander intervened and the youths took off.

The bystander told police that the youths boarded a bus. Officers were able to locate the suspects in the area of Portage Avenue and Waterfront Drive. The stolen cell phone and a small knife were recovered.

Police said four youths, a 14-year-old male and three females, ages 14, 15, and 16 have been charged with Robbery X3 and Possess Weapon.
