Ex-MP Accused Of Sex Assault

WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Police say a former New Democrat MP has been charged with sexual assault.

Romeo Saganash was arrested on June 27th in connection to an allegation from May 1st in Winnipeg and the matter is now before the courts.

He represented the northern Quebec riding of Abitibi-Baie-James-Nunavik-Eeyou between 2011 to 2019, also serving as the NDP Indigenous affairs critic.

Saganash, A Cree lawyer, helped to negotiate the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
