Driver Faces Charges After Pedestrian Struck and Killed at Crosswalk

WINNIPEG - A young pedestrian that was struck by a car while crossing Sargent at a crosswalk has now died as a result of her injuries and the driver who struck her may face charges.

The pedestrian, who was in her 20's was crossing the street on July 31 just before 2:00 P.M. on Sargent at Simcoe Street. She was struck by a vehicle heading westbound. She was taken to hospital in critical condition and has now succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, an 89-year-old male of Winnipeg, was arrested at the scene and may face charges pending the outcome of the investigation.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Traffic Division. Investigators are looking for witnesses to this collision. Anyone with information that may assist investigators, and has not already spoken with police, is asked to call 204-986-7085 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
