Bear Spray and Firearms Used in Violent Fight

WINNIPEG – Four Suspects face multiple weapons charges after a violent fight involving bear spray and firearms.

Police responded to the call on Magnus Avenue and located evidence of shots having been fired. A K-9 Unit began to track from this location and found the suspects.

One male, Damon SHABAQUAY, was located behind a residence and taken into custody.

Two more people, a 45-year-old male, and a 16-year-old female were located inside a garage at this location and taken into custody. Officers observed and seized a sawed-off bolt action rifle.

A fourth person, Brandon WOODHOUSE, was located and arrested at the home where the incident originated.

Officers learned that SHABAQUAY attended to the residence on Magnus Avenue where he sprayed WOODHOUSE with bear spray. WOODHOUSE retrieved a can of bear spray from within the residence, exited, and sprayed SHABAQUAY. The two continued to exchange blasts of bear spray until SHABAQUAY produced a CO2 firearm and fired multiple rounds at WOODHOUSE, striking him in the lower body. WOODHOUSE suffered minor injury and declined medical attention.

A yet to be arrested male attended to the residence to retrieve an item belonging to SHABAQUAY at which time WOODHOUSE was shot at. The shot struck and shattered a nearby vehicle’s window.

Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition

Carry Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition

Discharge a Restricted Firearm or a Prohibited Firearm with Intent

Fail to Comply with Probation Order X4

Pointing a Firearm

Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized

Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order X3

Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition

Possession of a Weapon X3

Possession of Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With

Brandon Dean WOODHOUSE, a 21-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

Assault with a Weapon

Fail to Comply with Condition of Recognizance X3

Possession of a Weapon

Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon

Charles Clayton SHABAQUAY, a 45-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:

Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition

Possession of a Weapon

Possession of Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With

Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regs

Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

A 16-year-old female of Winnipeg has been charged with:

Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition

Possession of a Weapon

Possession of Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With

Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regs

Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

They have all been detained.
