17 Year-Old Killed in Home Invasion

WINNIPEG - 17 year-old Jaime Adao was killed in an armed home invasion and the suspect was shot by police in an attempt to stop the attack.

The incident started on March 3, when police responded to a break and enter at a home on McGee Street. 17 year-old Jaime was home alone with his grandmother at around 9:00 pm. when an intruder broke in and began to attack the boy with a weapon. Police arrived to find the boy being assaulted and fired their gun in an effort to stop the attack.

Both the victim and the suspect were taken to hospital in critical condition. Jaime Adao, the victim, has since died as a result of the attack and the suspect remains in hospital.

The Independent Investigation Unit has assumed responsibility for the officer-involved shooting.
