Winnipeg's Bombers Keep Winning

Bombers Keep Winning

WINNIPEG - On what only can be described as “Lucky Whitehead Appreciation Night on TSN”, Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Zach Collaros went 28 of 33 throwing for an incredible 417 yards including touchdown passes to Kenny Lawler and Rasheed Bailey on the way to a 30-9 beat down of the BC Lions last night in Vancouver spoiling TSN’s obvious campaigning to make Whitehead the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player. Prior to the game we heard the TSN panel crowing about Whitehead and during the first quarter Rod Black and Glen Suitor blabbed on about his 2021 accomplishments. Not so lucky for him, but lucky for Bomber fans, Whitehead was crushed by Winnipeg’s Brandon Alexander following a catch early in the second quarter. I thought Black and Suitor were going to leave the broadcast booth to tend to his injuries which would of suited most fans just fine.

Once again, Winnipeg’s defense came up big sacking B.C.’s Michael Reilly five times. The artist formerly known as Mike went 17-of-27 for 177 yards. All things clicked for the Blue; Kicker Ali Mourtada connected on all three of his field goal attempts and added three converts, backup QB Sean McGuire scored his league-leading seventh rushing touchdown of the season with 2:54 to go; the Bombers have outscored their opponents 68-6 during the fourth quarter this season. Lawler caught 12 passes for 205 yards, Nic Demski hauled in 4 passes, and Andrew Harris rushed for 81 yards.

Winnipeg who are now 7-1 host the Edmonton Elks Friday night at IG Field. Kickoff is at 7:30pm.
