WINNIPEG - Montreal Alouettes’ owner Gary Stern took to Twitter earlier this week - “Game against Winnipeg coming up fast. No one gives us a chance. I sincerely believe we are at home, we have the talent, coaches have installed great systems, we will win this game. Don’t write this team off.”
He’s right about one thing; no one is giving the Al’s a chance tonight. The 8-0 Winnipeg Blue Bombers have defeated the previously unbeaten BC Lions, the previously unbeaten Calgary Stampeders (then did it again two weeks later), the defending East Division champions Hamilton Tiger-Cats, the current East Division leading Toronto Argonauts, and cellar dwellers Ottawa and Edmonton.
The 2-5 Alouettes are tied for second in the East with Hamilton (2-5) and are 1-2 under interim coach/GM Danny Maciocia after the firing of Khari Jones. Quite frankly, they’re a terrible football team and old Gary Stern is just looking to sell tickets.
Here’s the bottom line; Montreal cannot beat the Bombers. Even on his worst night, Zack Collaros tossed three touchdowns in a game where he only completed seven passes. He will destroy the Alouettes this week and next, taking Winnipeg into a bye week with a perfect 10-0 record. In the words of the WWE’s Paul Heyman, “that’s not a prediction, that’s a spoiler”.
Game time tonight is 6:30pm (680 CJOB, TSN3).
