WINNIPEG - The 7-1 Winnipeg Blue Bombers, who are hosting their first home game in nearly a month, once again face the Edmonton Elks, a team they have already beat and a team they face again next week due to the quirky 2021 CFL schedule. The Bombers defeated the Elks in Edmonton on September 18th 37-22. That night Zach Collaros went 19 of 24 for 252 yards and tossed a touchdown to Darvin Adams, Nic Demski and Sean McGuire had rushing touchdowns and the Bombers got two more major scores from the defense. Adam Bighill and Willie Jefferson were sensational in that win spoiling the CFL debut of Elks QB Taylor Cornelius.
All the attention this week has been on the suspension of Kenny Lawler; the last time these two teams met, Lawler hauled in one pass for 30 yards and really wasn’t a factor. Collaros will rely on his other weapons tonight. American rookie Kelvin McKnight will replace Lawler.
Elks QB Trevor Harris will return for Edmonton and he better have his track shoes on because I expect the Bombers to chase him around IG Field like the defense chased BC’s Michael Riley did in Vancouver last week.
This game is as close to the free square on a bingo card as you can get as the Elks are 2-5 and have only put 140 points on the scoreboard all season compared to the Big Blue’s league leading 203. Expect the home team to win big.
