Bombers Are 2-0

WINNIPEG - It wasn’t pretty, but the Winnipeg Blue Bombers once again defeated the Ottawa RedBlacks last night at TD Place Stadium by a 19-12 score. The defending champs are now 2-0 on the season.

The Bombers offense and defense both sputtered in the first half and were behind 9-7 at halftime but came out strong in the 3rd quarter and took the lead with two Marc Liegghio field goals. Ottawa closed the gap with a field goal of their own with 3 minutes to go. The Bombers took a 13-12 lead into the 4th and that’s the way it stayed until Zach Collaros found Dalton Schoen in the end zone for a 27-yard touchdown to give Winnipeg a seven point lead. The Bombers defense held and they escaped Ottawa with the win. Collaros finished 15 for 22 for 228 yards and two touchdowns and for the second straight week was outplayed by the RedBlacks Jeremiah Masoli who was 27 for 38 for 338 yards. However, all of Ottawa’s points came from kicker Lewis Ward who went 4 for 5. Liegghio was 2 for 2 but missed another convert attempt. Outplayed or not, the Big Blue are perfect thus far in the 2022 season.

Hamilton is next up at IG Field for another Grey Cup rematch next Friday. Kickoff is at 7:30pm.
