Winnipeg Blue Bombers Lose First Game

Bombers Lose First Game

WINNIPEG - CJOB’s Bob Irving called it sloppy. He was being nice.

Yesterday, at a near empty BMO Field, the Toronto Argonauts handed the Winnipeg Blue Bombers their first defeat since October 19th, 2019 with a 30-23 win. The score actually flattered the Bombers as they were only able to generate 236 yards of offense and 12 first downs. Zach Collaros went 18 of 33 for 204 yards and did toss touchdown passes to Rasheed Bailey and the returning Darvin Adams. He also threw an interception and had a couple of passes batted down. Toronto’s Nick Arbuckle completed 23-of-32 pass attempts for 310 yards, with one touchdown and no interceptions.

Winnipeg’s defense, which only allowed 13 points in the past two games, struggled to get into a rhythm, allowing the Argos to jump to a 13-0 lead before the first quarter was over. Coach Mike O’Shea will have to make a decision on his place kicker Tyler Crapigna who missed field goals from 37 and 55 yards out.

The bright light for the Bombers was special teams ace Mike Miller who had two tackles on the afternoon to break the CFL all-time special teams record. He now has 191, topping the 190 tackles by Jason Arakgi.

The Bombers next see action Sunday August 29th at IG Field vs. the Calgary Stampeders. Game time is 6pm.
